Circuit history
The Gilles Villeneuve circuit is located on Ile Notre-Dame, built for Montreal's Expo 67. Named after Quebec driver Gilles Villeneuve, this semi-permanent circuit combines tight chicanes and fast straights. The famous Wall of Champions in the final chicane has caught many world champions.
Why this circuit is special
The Wall of Champions is legendary — Schumacher, Villeneuve, Hill, all crashed there. The island setting in the middle of the St. Lawrence River is unique. Races in Montreal are often animated by safety cars and surprising strategies.
